500 ## - GENERAL NOTE
General note TAHUN/ YEAR: 1794

KARTOGRAFI/ CARTOGRAPHY: Thomas Jefferys, penerbit Laurie and Whittle, London.

This map is an Oriental Pilot sea chart atlas. It is the first English sea chart published after the East India Company obtained Penang from the Sultan of Kedah in August 1786. This marked the beginning of British occupancy in the Straits of Malacca, followed notably by Raffles obtaining part of Singapore in 1819, which later led to the 1824 Anglo-Dutch Treaty. This 1824 treaty would break up the 200-year-old Johor-Pahang-Riau-Lingga empire.
